Professional photographers, photography students and skilled amateurs are invited to submit original images expressing the qualities of Logan for the chance to win one of two $5,000 prizes.

Entries open Friday, 25 May 2018 and close Tuesday, 31 July 2018 at 11.59pm.

Winners will be announced by 31 August 2018.

Peter Thiedeke works internationally as a photographer, creative director and researcher. His practice-based research is in the fields of still and moving imagery, and since 1995, he has worked with advertising agencies, digital agencies, publishers, record companies, designers, web developers, architects, collectives, universities, galleries and museums on projects in London, Paris, New York, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Buenos Aires. Peter lectures at the Queensland College of Art (QCA) delivering courses to the Fine Art, Photography, Design and Bachelor of Interactive and Creative Media programs. He holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts, an MA in Interactive Digital Media and is currently a PhD candidate at the QCA.

Steve Parish is an award-winning Australian photographer who has been capturing images of Australia’s people, places, and wildlife for more than 50 years. He is one of few Australian photographers who can look back over five-plus decades of photography across a range of Australian social and natural history subjects. Steve pioneered underwater photography in Australia and now manages the largest and most comprehensive privately owned photographic library in the nation from his home in the Blackall Range on the Sunshine Coast. Robyn Daw has worked in leading contemporary art spaces, university and state galleries, including the Queensland Art Gallery and the National Gallery of Australia as curator, lecturer and in senior management. She joined Arts Queensland initially on a short term curatorial contract, which became a much longer commitment combining a love of arts and politics. Currently Creative Industries Program Leader at Logan City Council focusing on building the cultural capital of the city. Her published work includes exhibition catalogues and education resources on contemporary, modern and historic art, craft and design, critical essays and reviews in national and international catalogues and magazines, and strategies and policies on arts, culture and heritage.

Who can enter?

Professional photographers, photography students and skilled amateurs are invited to submit their own original work.

How many times can I enter?

You can enter as many photographs as you like.

Can the photograph have been submitted into other competitions?

The photographs must NOT have been previously published or submitted into previous competitions.

What is the prize if I win?

There will be two winners chosen and each will receive $5,000 in photographic supplies from Garricks Camera House at Hyperdome Shopping Centre, Loganholme QLD.

I am under 18 years, can I enter?

All ages are eligible to enter however if you are under 18 please check with your parent/s or guardians before entering.

When is the entry period?

Entry period is 25 May to 31 July, 2018.

Is it permissible to use editing software on my image?

Yes, entries submitted after using photo editing software will be valid, judges will consider the entry based on the selection criteria.

Once I’ve entered can I change it?

Once a photograph has been submitted it can’t be edited. If you need to withdraw for any purpose please submit your request to marketing@logan.qld.gov.au.

Do the photos have to be of Logan?

Entries must be taken within the City of Logan local government boundaries.

Do I have to be a resident of Logan?

You do NOT need to be a resident of Logan however the photographs must have been taken within the City of Logan local government boundaries.

Can I enter of behalf of someone else?

Images must be the original work of the entrant and must be submitted by the owner. If you are under 18 a parent/guardian may enter on your behalf.

Can Council staff enter?

Council staff and their families may enter however they will not be eligible for a prize.

How will I be notified if I win?

The winners will be notified either by phone or email by 31 August, 2018 and their works will be published on Council social media platforms and the Our Logan Magazine.
